Every year, on the 22nd of April, it’s International Earth Day. On this day, the Earth is in the spotlight and the environment gets a little bit extra attention. This day came in 1970 to raise awareness about the current environmental concerns that are getting worse and worse throughout the whole world.
On this day, 69Slam organized a Beach Clean Up, to do our part in keeping the Earth clean. With around 50 people from the 69Slam stores and headquarters, we gathered at Berawa Beach in Tibubeneng, Bali to pick up non-organic waste from the beach.
And what did we see! We mostly found Styrofoam, straws, cigarette buds, lighters, bottle caps, and plastic wrappers. Especially the Styrofoam was everywhere, because of all the small balls it is made of, so it was a challenge to pick everything up!
After the beach was cleaned up, we could fill a couple of garbage bags with all the waste. And although this is of course still too much, we were also happy to find that it has become less over the years. The beach looked way cleaner than before! So, we are glad that little by little, Bali is reducing their waste and is more aware of the impact that pollution has on the environment.
One Beach Clean Up won’t make that much of a difference. But if everyone takes little steps in doing something for the environment, together we will contribute to a cleaner Earth!
Thank you to everyone who joined us this day!
